The value of assets owned by commercial banks in Kenya dropped by 1.6 percent last year to Sh7.6 trillion, bucking a sustained 22-year growth trend observed since 2002 when the resources rose 4.9 percent to stand at Sh456.7 billion.

Official records show that last year’s fall, which came after a strong 17.6 percent growth observed in 2023, was the second since 2001 when the net industry assets dipped 2.3 percent to Sh425 billion, driven largely by the market exit of Trust Bank through liquidation.
